The week between Christmas & the New Year is probably my favorite week of the year. To me it’s such a time to rest & recharge while also drawing in focus on what I want the next year to look like. It’s a time to be creative with the challenges I want to place at my feet, and also a time to take a serious evaluation of the previous year…what worked, what didn’t, what did I learn, how can I grow…etc. So in December I start kinda feeling things out!!
But in order to make the most of that week and be ready to start the New Year strong, I like to do a little preparation in the form of sort of casually brainstorming New Year goals until then. I do a whole thing on 1/1 where I sit down with a notebook and pen-to-paper write these things down (I like to wait until it’s officially the New Year to do this, it’s just something I have always done!). But, until then, I keep a lot of it just floating around in my head, seeing how it sits in my thoughts and how it feels…does it feel too heavy? Does it excite me? Is it worth my time & effort? These are the things I do to “try it on for size” so to speak before deciding YES or NO I want to commit to this.
New Year Goal Setting for me typically involves goals of all sorts of sizes…big life/business goals, smaller “stepping stone” goals (these are things that I feel are necessary to do to achieve the bigger goals), personal goals (aka goals that shape who I am as a person…so these are me trying to better myself spiritually, emotionally, physically etc.
I am not done with my brainstorming process since that will continue until 2023 but I wanted to share a few of the things I have in mind so far…in no particular order:
- Execute www.besstworkouts.com website redesign – this is something I’ve had on the back burner and I want to make it happen hopefully in Q1 of 2023! If you have any recommendations for website design drop them in the comments! I may try to tackle it myself, but I think I’d probably prefer to delegate this task by hiring someone who is more proficient than I.
- Start talking with someone about my anxiety – I don’t know if this is Postpartum Anxiety or not, as I have always struggled with anxiety but I do know that it has started to feel overwhelming. I used to be able to manage it much better than I feel I do now. So one of the steps I want to take to manage it is to find a therapist I can talk to. I’ve heard good things about the website Better Help, where you can find a licensed therapist online, so I think I may start there. I think we can all benefit from therapy!
- Do 3 unassisted pull-ups in a row – this goal is just a fun (albeit hard) physical challenge I am setting for myself. I’m just going to say 3 sort of arbitrarily but I know 3 is harder than it sounds, especially because I am still regaining some strength I lost during my pregnancy! I am ordering some special resistance bands to help with this process. I’ll document it and keep you posted on how it goes!
- Grow the Besst Workouts community – I don’t know if you’ve been able to tell over on Instagram through my content, but since having Tegan I’ve really made the conscious decision to focus more on sharing healthy lifestyle & fitness content primarily. That’s the content I love to create & share and help people with…and quite frankly even if I wanted to do all the other stuff (fashion, home, etc.) I simply don’t have the time I used to with two kids at home! So “niching down” has had to happen but I feel it’s the right path for me. I love being able to share workouts and helping other women feel stronger, happier, & more confident in themselves…so I hope to continue to grow the Besst Workouts community and reach more women than ever before.
So that’s all I have for now, but I will surely come and update come 2023 with any new additions to my goals. I do hope to find more that I think are both fun and challenging so, stay tuned!
Do you have any goals set yet for next year?
xo,
Bess
