Craig & I celebrated our 5 year anniversary last weekend and since we decided to do a little Asheville staycation, I wanted to share what we did/where we went/where we ate, etc. I had several people DM me and mention that they are planning to take a trip to Asheville soon and wanting my recommendations… I’m definitely still settling in to living here and finding new spots (that’s part of the fun of moving right?! well it’s a little more complicated during a pandemic & with a toddler) but I will definitely share the details of our 5 year anniversary Asheville staycation in this post, along with other potential things to do and places to go to!
Asheville Weekend Itinerary
Friday
Friday morning we originally wanted to go for a hike, but it was pouring rain so we decided to go for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway instead and try to find some fall foliage! We drove up to Graveyard Fields…which is a hike but we just walked the quarter mile down to the water and looked around there. It was super muddy beyond that because of all the rain but we were happy with seeing the color starting to change! I definitely recommend a drive along the parkway if you’re coming to Asheville. There are tons of pull off spots along the way with viewpoints. Black Balsam is another near Graveyard Fields with great views. Pisgah Inn is another little spot along the way you can stop, they have great views and you can go out and sit in the adirondack chairs and just relax if you’d like!
That afternoon we had deep tissue massages scheduled at Sachi Massage, which is located just outside of downtown Asheville. We got the 90 minute massages and it was a great way to relax for the weekend.
By the time we were done the sun was out…yay! We headed home to shower and take our time getting ready for dinner.
Dinner was at Bull & Beggar, a place I had seen on Instagram and it looked cool! Sadly we were not super impressed with the food but the service was good! We did really like the cocktails, so I think if we ever went back we’d go for drinks. The ambiance was very cool. There’s a brewery right next door called The Wedge, so you could hit both spots!
In hindsight I wish I had made one night of our dinner reservations a little later (both nights were at 7pm) so we could have done sunset at the Omni Grove Hotel. Add that to your list…it’s still on mine!
Saturday
For our Saturday plans, I got us day pass tickets to the Biltmore Estate (which we upgraded to Annual Passes since we live so close and 100% will go back a ton) and we got there bright and early around 9am when they opened! I really wanted to get wine tasting reservations (reservations required) but you can only make the reservations day of, so we went first thing so we could get the time slot we wanted. We got it for around 11:30 and spent the next couple hours walking around the property, shops, and garden. We didn’t go in the house this time, but we are for sure going back when it’s all decorated for Christmas! We also got lunch at the bistro after our wine tasting.
We headed home mid afternoon because we both agreed an afternoon nap sounded delightful! So we did that and then woke up to get ready for dinner.
Dinner on Saturday was at The Admiral, a place we’d been to before and we LOVED, so we went back. I’m happy to report we still loved it! Great food and drinks. I do recommend you making reservations for wherever you might want to go!
Sunday
Since the weather had cleared up from Friday morning, we decided we’d get a little hike in on Sunday before we picked up Emma. We did the trail at Carl Sandburg. This is about 30 minutes south of Asheville, so if you’re trying to stay closer to that area, there are tons of other options you can check out!
If you are planning a visit to Asheville, I highly recommend you check out the Romantic Asheville website. It has all the restaurants, hikes, things to do, etc. that you’d need!
If you have any questions let me know!
