Happy New Year’s Eve! The Besst Workouts January Challenge kicks off tomorrow, 1/1/21! I want you to be able to use the workouts and the schedule to find the way that best works for you to make this a real lifestyle, but that also involves some work other than the actual workouts. What I mean by that, and you already know if you read your Daily Tip Sheet in the app, is to create a morning routine and some January goals that you want to do in conjunction with the workouts. I want to share my January Challenge goals with you all today in case it helps spark some ideas or inspiration for your own.
These goals can be big or small! Every little positive step in the right direction adds up.
My January Challenge Goals
- No alcohol during the week – Drinking a glass or wine (or 2) became a nearly-every-night type of occurence in December, which is fine, NBD…but in January I want to keep my adult beverages to the weekend only (*giving myself a pass on my birthday, January 18th, which is a Monday). Instead, I am going to pick up a couple kombuchas at the store each week and I’ll pour those into a wine glass to have something to sip on! Still feels special because it’s in a fancier glass 😉
- Take my Ritual multivitamin every day! I’ve been taking this for a few weeks now and I’m for sure never going back to another brand. Super high quality, traceable ingredients and no fishy taste. The time release capsule also prevents you from getting nauseated from taking it, meaning you don’t necessarily need to take it with a meal! Click here for $15 off your first order.
- My goal is to eat a huge salad for lunch everyday. I do this most days anyways, but some days I can be too lazy to put one together and have beens lacking lately. When I do actually make salads, I love them honestly. So I’m committing to doing it for lunch so I can be sure at least one meal a day I’m getting tons of greens and veggies. My favorite combo is mixed greens, spinach, and leafy romaine (for some crunch!) topped with chicken (either rotisserie, grilled, or the air fried chicken nuggets) and diced cucumers and olives. I love the Bolthouse yogurt ranch dressing and a little goes a long way!
- Drink at least 90z of water each day. A good rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces, and a little more if you’re very active and sweat, so I’m upping that to aim for 90! Getting a good water bottle is always incentive to drink! I love this one and filling it up 3x a day has me at my goal.
- I want to try to walk (leisurely is fine!) at least 15 minutes a day, outside of the scheduled workout for that day.. We love to take our lunch time walks, so I do usually get this done, but again similar to the salad situation, I want to recommit to doing it each day.
- My goal is to get at least 8 hours of sleep per night, and be in bed/lights out by 10pm. The last few nights I’ve been in bed by 8:30/9 and asleep within the hour…it has been glorious so I’m excited to keep up this routine!
- Up by 6 to read devotionals and plan for the day/run in the morning if it’s a cardio day before Emma wakes up. Since I’m going to bed by 10 I hope I can maintain this! These are the devotionals I’m starting with for the new year.
- Do all my daily Besst Workouts App workouts and post to IG!! I love sharing with y’all and hope you will share your workouts with me too. Tag me @besshcarter so I can see!!
- I want to try to work on being able to do a pull up…we have an at-home pull up bar so I’m going to start working on it! I’ll keep ya posted lol. I also really want to challenge myself to do more of my pushups on my toes rather than my knees. Doing even just a couple more on my toes I know will do great things for my strength so that’s an area I will be pushing myself a little more in!
- Daily Inspo – each day on my IG stories in January I am going to share a quote for some daily inspiration or motivation so be sure to check in!! I have a bunch picked out already and I love how a quote can be exactly what you need to hear (or read) sometimes!
- Evaluate each day. What I mean by this is I want to be really tuned into my body and myself, to evaluate where I think I’m doing well and where I think I could find a better way or make improvements of some kind. That way going into February (& subsequent months) I can continue to do my best to evolve into the best version of myself!
What are some of your January Challenge goals?

Bess

Water and greens for me (going to copy you on the salad a day thing!). Working out is never a problem so I will continue to get in all workouts and my steps daily!
