I seriously cannot believe my baby is 11 months! I feel like I’m going to start any and every post about her that way. Time really does fly and you don’t notice just how quickly until you become a parent, I think. Time please slow down! Writing these posts will be something I enjoy looking back on one day, too. Craig journals a lot of memories…I blog them 🙂 Sharing an Emma 11 month update in this post about eating, sleeping, walking, playing, & more!
Emma 11 Month Update
Eating
I am still nursing and my plan is to go to 12 months…past that I don’t really have a plan. We have been doing Baby Led Weaning since about 6 months or so…not to “wean” just yet, but to get her to start getting familiar with food, let her play and experiment with different tastes and textures. She probably only had purees for about a week tops, and then she was straight into regular food. This did not serve as her meals, again I am still primarily nursing for those. But let me tell you what…girlfriend LOVES to eat “big people food”. So much so that she will crawl over to the pantry and sit in front of the doors whining until we get her something. LOL! She is so funny. We have been using this high chair and really like it!
She loves avocado, banana, (cooked) carrots, (steamed) broccoli, turkey, salmon, eggs, yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, peanut butter…honestly, we haven’t really found anything yet that she DOESN’T like. She also really loves Puffs and Teething Wafers. They are great little snacks to take when you’re on the go too.
Walking
No walking independently just yet, but she is a champ at pulling up to standing up on her own (holding on to our hands or something else for balance) and she will take steps if she’s holding on to something. She seems a little timid to try something new at first, but then once she does it she is good at it! She is definitely strong enough to walk, I think she’s just a little nervous still. It’ll happen when she feels ready 🙂
Playing
Right now, almost any and everything is a toy! She is super interested just to explore and check out all the things. Her favorite actual toys, however, are the ones that play music. This one is a favorite for her! She loves to dance to the music (and by dancing I mean wiggling). If I’m honest, our iPhones are truly her favorite toy. Not because she’s watching anything on it (I’m not against a little screen time, but she honestly isn’t as interested in them right now) she just loves to hold them & chew on them, haha. She sometimes is able to open the camera and ends up accidentally taking pictures & videos, which is kind of funny to look back at them.
Sleeping
We have been following the Moms on Call schedule for months now and it was, not to be dramatic, LIFE CHANGING. I will 100% use Moms on Call earlier with any other subsequent babies. By the way: The Moms on Call courses cover much more than just sleep stuff. They cover almost everything and all video courses so it’s so easy to consume and learn. We sleep trained her around 5 months and it took maybe 2-3 nights of her crying it out right when we put her down for her to learn that she could put herself to sleep. It is hard to listen to your baby cry, but she would cry for about an hour and we did not go back in to the room. We found that we would make her MORE upset by going in and comforting her and it would prolong the entire thing.
Your baby might do better with comforting at intervals (like the Ferber method) but we found complete extinction worked best. Extinction feels like a harsh word, but, it worked best for us. You can read more HERE. We do the same bedtime routine every single night + blackout curtains + sound machine and honestly, at night now she is practically begging to get in her crib. She loves it so much and will (knock on wood) sleep from about 6:30/7pm to 7-7:30am. The daytime schedule from Moms on Call made all the difference too. I am writing a post all about her naps and daytime schedule – and her dropping her 3rd afternoon nap – on the Moms on Call blog! Click here to read more!
I do have a new discount code you can use for 20% off at Moms on Call: BESSCARTER20. No kickback to me, just a discount to you if you decide to use. Code is valid until 12/31/2020! They have courses all the way through toddlerhood, and I already have those courses because I plan to use them all the way through with Emma and any future babies, if we are so lucky 🙂
Other Faves
She loves to read books, especially the ones with the hard, thick pages. She turns the pages as you read to her…it is adorable. She loves to gives kisses–sometimes to us, all the time to her bunnies! She also loves to go on walks, but since it’s getting hot out now, we are sure to put sunscreen on her, keep the shade over her, and also we clip this fan to her stroller to blow on her. It has a UV sunshade that pulls out also for extra coverage which is so nice.
She’s been learning how to drink out of sippy cups and she likes this kind and this kind. She will also just take sips out of our open cups sometimes with our help!
Coming Next
Next up is her 1 year birthday!! BRB while I go cry! I’ve been having a bunch of fun planning her little party and can’t wait to share that with y’all. Emma is the sweetest babe and I am so, so lucky to be her mama. We love her so much!
If y’all have any questions feel free to leave them in the comments and I can get back to ya 🙂
xo,
Bess
