It has been a couple of years now since I went full-time with my blog and left Corporate America, but after a handful of requests for some wear-to-work style, I decided to dust off that section of my style brain and create a little workwear outfit guide for y’all. I know different jobs have different dress codes, and the styles I’m sharing today are probably most along the lines of business casual. Some jobs might be slightly more formal business attire on a regular basis but I’d say for the most part, these items would be okay to wear to just about any job I can think of. These are all pieces I would have worn to my job and I’m going to share exactly how I had my workwear wardrobe styled so I could mix & match a ton of pieces.
Side note: Places like TJ Maxx or Marshall’s are really great places to find dresses or tops you can wear to work! I know it might be hard right now with COVID if some places are open or not, but just keep it in mind. I used to go in there and find a ton of little dresses and I swear they would be like $10 a piece.
The other places I would regularly shop for work wear are the ones I linked here! Target, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, & Loft are go-to’s because they are nice pieces at budget-friendly pricing or they have sales very frequently.
My wardrobe for work primarily involved dresses, which were my favorite to wear because I just found them the most comfortable, and then I’d wear pants with a pretty blouse frequently also. I always kept a cardigan with me in case conference rooms were ever cold. I usually wore flats to work (I’d only wear heels if I had a presentation or something) but I’m sharing some heels as well.
Sometimes I would interchange a blazer instead of a cardigan just depending on the day, so I’ve listed a couple selects of those below.
Basically having a couple pairs of pants, 2-3 cardigans, and a rotation of dresses and blouses are perfect for getting you through work days! Yes I re-wore plenty of outfits, I personally preferred to spend more of my clothing budget on clothes I wore outside of work, but occasionally you can find that sweet spot where an item is versatile and you can wear anywhere! Love those! For me I found this was easier in the winter because you can just wear chunky sweaters with work pants, but they’d be the same sweaters I’d wear with jeans, ya know?
I always liked having sleeveless blouses or dresses and just pairing with a cardigan, since I would get hot a lot so being able to take my sweater off at my desk was nice-ha! Especially since a lot of times I used to workout at lunch and I’d come back still hot! So this helped. You want to make sure blouses aren’t too low-cut and that dresses aren’t too tight. You’re going to work, not the club 😉
