We just got back from a week-long beach trip and while it wasn’t Emma’s first beach trip (we went to the beach last September when she was a few weeks old) it did feel like the first time she was old enough to realize she was at the beach and take in the new sights & sounds! She wasn’t too sure of the ocean – I think the loud sound of the waves scared her a little bit – but she loved playing in the sand (& eating it) and she also loved the pool!
I tried to keep our packing as light as I possibly could, but did get a few questions about items that we took for baby so I wanted to share what we took here! I’m also sharing some of the things I *wish* I had thought to bring but didn’t. Hope it’s helpful!
Beach Essentials for Baby
- Sunscreen. We use this kind for Emma and I really like that it’s clean ingredients and gentle on her skin!
- A hat. We’ve had this hat for months now and we’ve gotten so much use out of it! I love that it ties at the bottom under the chin but it’s also adjustable around the head too, so we haven’t had any issues with it coming off her head. She seems comfortable in it.
- Popup Beach Shelter. This was a last minute purchase and I’m glad we got it! I think we could for sure use it at home too if we are hanging out in the yard or whatever! It’s a little annoying to put back together, but once you figure it out it’s fine. It is trial and error trying to figure it out at first but I think for the price it’s worth trying out, ha.
- Cutie swimsuits! Of course you want babe to have some cute suits! Here’s my recommendation though: buy the two piece kinds! They are SO much easier to put on and wayyyy easier for diaper changing purposes. I especially like the two piece kind with the long sleeve rash guard tops because it’s extra sun coverage.
- Beach blanket. I recommend either a beach blanket or an extra large towel that you can put out so baby can still crawl and play!
- Beach toys. New toys help keep babe’s interest too so they can keep playing! Emma played with some similar to this set.
- Portable fan. We have this one (we also use it on walks with her stroller) but it never hurts to have a little extra breeze on a hot day. Always be mindful of how long you’re outside and the temperature because you don’t want baby to overheat.
- Pool float. This is one thing we did not bring but if I had thought of it, I totally would have since we have a pool there too! We got her in the pool and just held her, but I think she would have really loved to float around. This one and this one look like great options!
