After I was cleared to resume exercise after having Emma, one thing became immediately apparent: I needed some new sports bras. Something more supportive than I was using previously…and so I took to Instagram to ask all of you about your recommendations. If you missed it, I recapped all of the recs on this post. I bought three of the recommended bras from that list after doing my own research and reading reviews, and promised you all I would come back with my own reviews after having tried them for a bit. So here we are and here are my thoughts on Sports Bras for Postpartum Exercise!
Although I mention I bought three of the sports bras to try, only two ended up getting to me. I ordered these three initially:
- Lululemon Run Times Bra
- Old Navy High Support Cross Back Sports Bra
- Brooks Juno Bra
Weeks after placing my order I still had not received the Brooks bra, which honestly was the one I was most excited about getting and I thought it would be the best of the three. They emailed me that they were out of stock, so I didn’t end up getting that one after all. I figured I’d just try the other two and go from there.
Lulu Run Times Bra Review
This bra is obviously a little pricier than the Old Navy bra…you could buy three of the Old Navy bras for the price of this Lulu one. But it did come with a lot of great reviews from you all on Instagram and figured I’d try it. I didn’t love that it had the metal clasps (something I just always think is kind of uncomfortable) but assume that must be pretty standard when you need something more supportive. I tried it out and at first I felt like I didn’t love it…but at that point I had already sweated in it during a run and I’m not sure you can really return things at that point?! I don’t know how you’re ever supposed to know if you really love something like a sports bra until you can put it to the test. Anyways…it grew on me. I kept trying it and tightening the straps to get them to the right place and finally I feel like I got them there. And now I really like the bra! Is it as comfortable in my mind as something with no clasps or strap adjustments? No. But sometimes those things might be necessary. I would say if you really need support, give this one a go. It is more supportive than the Old Navy bra.
Old Navy Sports Bra Review
This bra comes in at about $20 (and you can usually wait for a sale or get a coupon from Old Navy pretty easily) so if budget is important to you, I would 100% say that this one is worth trying out. I think the Lulu one is ever so slightly more supportive but I find this one to be more comfortable. I think for the price point if I were to order more, I’d order more of these over the Lulu one. This bra doesn’t have as much structure as the Lulu one and doesn’t have cups that are as defined. I personally like that it has more of a traditional sports bra feel where the other one feels more like a “regular” bra but in a sports bra material. If that makes sense.
They are both great so it just sort of depends on what is important to you. I can’t yet speak to the long term quality of them since it’s only been a couple of months I’ve worn them about 1x per week each, but they both seem to be holding up well. I like them both and would recommend either of them. Again it’s just about what’s more important to you!
