Emma is going to be 1 month old on Sunday. HOWWWW. I officially understand why parents are always like HOW ARE YOU SO OLD because I can’t understand where the last month went! But since we (almost) have a month under our belt with a newborn, I wanted to share some of the different products and items we have been using that have been our newborn essentials! It’s true they don’t need much besides your love (& milk!) but we have definitely found these items to be so helpful to us in transitioning to parenthood and still trying to get some sleep 😉
Our Newborn Essentials
Owlet Smart Sock – We have the Smart Sock and Camera combination but you can just get the sock if you prefer. We have the cam set up in her nursery but right now she is sleeping in our room so we are mostly using the sock right now. You put it on the baby’s foot and an alarm goes off if heart rate or oxygen levels get outside of the zones. It gives me such peace of mind going to sleep to know it would wake us up if anything was wrong. So for me this has been a big essential!!
SNOO – I really credit this thing for helping us to get more sleep. This bassinet is pricey but if you keep an eye out (maybe subscribe to emails) they do go on sale periodically throughout the year! We got ours on the New Year’s Eve sale when it was around $500 off. You can also rent them!
DockATot – Emma loves this for her naps! She usually naps in her SNOO once a day and then ends up having a nap in the DockATot as well. It’s a really great option for travel so we will definitely be taking it with us on some trips we have planned! She’s also done some tummy time in it! I love all the different cover options too. We have the black marble and the plain white.
Leacho Infant Lounger – I like this lounger because it’s more of a seat because it can prop the baby up in a little bit of an incline. So she can sit up in it on the table while I’m eating breakfast or sit next to us on the couch. This is another option.
Uppababy MESA Car Seat & VISTA Stroller – This kind came highly recommended from friends and so I was pretty convinced I wanted it also. I love that it comes with a bassinet for newborns, and the bassinet can detach and be used as a nice sleep spot for the baby if you’re traveling. The car seat also fits into the stroller, and the stroller can also turn into a double stroller one day when more kids may be an option!
Rohm Portable Sound Machine – This is a MUST! It helps Emma nap anywhere and we take it in her car seat when we go out. We also use it in the stroller on walks or if she’s napping outside of the SNOO (which has a built-in sound machine). It has a rechargeable battery too. Def recommend!
Burp Cloths – It doesn’t really matter where you get these, although we have these and these and love them. They come in such cute colors and patterns! Just be sure you have a lot! This is the one item I am constantly reaching for in every room in the house…so we now have a few in each room just to be safe!
Wipes Warmer – Most lists I saw said to skip this because it wasn’t really necessary…but I didn’t use it the first week of Emma being here and she would always start crying when we would change her diaper because the wipes were so cold!! So then we started using this and it makes the wipes nice and warm and whaddya know? No more crying. So yeah maybe not all babies need it but mine definitely appreciates a nice warm wipe on her bottom 🙂 . It also has a light in it so I basically use it as a nightlight for night feedings and diaper changes!
I hope you found it helpful to read about our newborn essentials. If you have questions feel free to leave them in the comments!
