The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale begins today and if you follow other lifestyle/style bloggers on Instagram, you might already be feeling overwhelmed with how much people are talking about it! I know I am. Listen, it’s a GREAT sale. You can get some really amazing new styles for fall and winter at a great discount, but it can be a lot from the bloggers constantly putting it in your face. I decided last year that the oversharing of it just made me feel kind of icky and that’s the last thing I want. At the end of the day, these are just clothes and your value as a human being is not defined by how many new items you can buy in this sale. I just want people to keep that in mind 🙂 You’ll hear these things are “must-haves!” but let’s be honest, the world would continue spinning if no one bought anything. So don’t feel pressured to buy something just because an insta-blogger tells you that “you need it!!!”.
So will I shop the sale? Yes, because again, you can find some really great pieces at a discount and things I’ve gotten in years’ past I still wear routinely. The things most worth it to me are things I can wear for many different reasons or occasions or with different styles, year after year. For example, during the sale maybe 3 or 4 years ago I bought a leather jacket that is nearly identical to this one from this year’s sale, and I wear it year after year and love it so much. I always get a ton of compliments on it. Same goes for the Spanx faux leather leggings. I wear them a ton and bought them during the sale 3 years ago and they’re still in great shape. I have these jeans and LOVE them, they are so stretchy and comfortable. So to me, those would be a worthwhile investment to get at the discounted price. So this year I am only going to be getting a small handful of things that I love if I don’t already have something similar.
I’ll be honest, Free People clothing is a weakness of mine so that is going to be hard for me to maybe only snag one or two things from them on sale 😉 But again since I love that brand and wear them for years, it is worth it to me if I find something I love.
If you’re interested in seeing what I got, I’ve linked the items below and I will be sure to share them on my body as soon as they get delivered and/or as soon as my baby is delivered and I can wear the items!
FYI, here are the dates when the sale is open to different groups:
Here are the items I got. I think they are all pretty timeless and could be pieces I wear time & time again:
- Softly Structured Knit Tunic in Black – Here’s my Free People purchase. It looks a little boxy on the model so I hope it fits me well! I could see myself basically living in this if so.
- Madewell Summer Ryder Cardigan in Heather Ice – I really love cardigans and I’m picky about the color gray for some reason…so I got this to check it out in person. I really like that it’s a lighter shade.
- Kendra Scott Gold Hoop Earrings – Not sureeee I’m going to love these but want to try them. I’ve been into hoops lately and love Kendra Scott but generally don’t like to pay full price for them so now’s the time to try IMO!
- Longline Cardigan in Green Heather – love that this is more of a duster length but the color is a little outside the box for me, so we will see!
- Chelsea28 Side Slit Sweater in Grey Heather. Looks like it would be great with jeans or leggings and love the side slit. This purchase feels like my only “sure thing”.
- Baby Bling Waffle Bun Headband – OK I had to get this for Emma *heart eye emojis* and it was only $8.
SHOP THE POST:
So that’s about it! Nothing crazy, just a few updated pieces. I also purchase these things in mind that I am basically trying them on so if the cardis or sweaters don’t fit me right, of course I return them. But I tried to be mindful about what I really thought I’d love and get a lot of wear out of. Less trendy stuff, and instead more classic, timeless styles. New cardigans are an easy addition to a wardrobe to make an outfit feel “new” and a couple tunics/sweaters I can wear with jeans or leggings that are also great for layering will allow me to create a bunch of different outfits with them!
Hope you like my picks and they have been helpful!
xo,
Bess
