I always get questions about what I eat in a day and what I’m eating while pregnant, so I do like to share as much as possible over on my Instagram stories throughout the day! (Follow me @besshcarter if you aren’t already!) But the truth is, it definitely varies from day to day. This day is just an example of what it might look like and I’ll throw in some other examples of things I might have in place of these meals & snacks on any given day.
Please note I am just sharing this in case anyone is looking for meal or snack ideas, I am in no way saying what I eat is right for you or that you should eat a certain way 🙂 I just do the best I can to listen to my body, get a good dose of fruits & veggies everyday, lean proteins, healthy fats, and of course some treats too.
It really hasn’t differed all that much from before pregnancy…I might just eat more frequently than I did before (keeping something on my stomach really helps with nausea.) And I’m sure I’m eating more overall, but I’m not counting calories or anything like that. Again just eating when I’m hungry and trying to make nutritious choices when I can stomach them 🙂 Sound good? Alright cool…Here’s what I’m eating while pregnant at 17 weeks!
What I’m Eating While Pregnant
Breakfast: Oatmeal with blueberries and peanut butter plus a cup of coffee with almond milk. I also sometimes have Special K protein cereal with blueberries. Cereal is definitely one of my pregnancy cravings. I also take my pre-natal vitamin after breakfast.
Snack: Siggi’s vanilla yogurt (I will usually slice a banana in this but I was out of bananas yesterday.)
Snack: Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage & Egg White English Muffin – I don’t always have these on hand but my parents bought a box so I’ve been eating the rest. I also really like to have avocado toast on ezekiel bread with an egg in place of this.
Lunch: Spinach salad with gluten free chicken nuggets (chopped up) and chickpeas with olive oil & sea salt. Sometimes instead of the chicken nuggets I will do salmon or grilled chicken, whatever protein we have on hand. I like to throw in cucumbers, green peppers, and avocado if I have those too.
Post-lunch dessert: Not pictured here but I usually like something sweet after lunch and lately I have been having 2 Girl Scout cookies since we just got our delivery. So yesterday it was 2 Thin Mint cookies.
Snack: 2 Tangelos
Snack: Veggie Sticks with a slice of cheddar cheese (sorry no picture of the cheese!) but this is like my afternoon cheese & crackers appetizer before dinner 🙂
Dinner: Taco Salad Bowl: Ground turkey with taco seasoning, black beans, diced tomatoes, green peppers, and guacamole over romaine lettuce. Sometimes will use brown rice as a base but did romaine yesterday. I really like the crunch factor there!
Dessert: Fruit popsicle. I have been CRUSHING these. Often will have 2. One of my pregnancy cravings has definitely been fruit so these popsicles are a favorite.
Pre-bedtime snack: I’m usually hungry again right before bed, and generally still craving something fruity so I had a pack of organic gummy bears and another Tangelo. I also really like to make tea at night. If I’m more hungry I may have a bar, such as a Larabar or Luna bar.
I also like to take my magnesium supplement right before bed because it promotes restful sleep and digestion.
When you are pregnant it helps keep everything “regular” if you know what I mean since constipation is a common side effect of pregnancy!
So as you can see I definitely am eating very frequently but I get full pretty fast which is different for me during pregnancy. Just listening to my body and eating when I’m hungry, which is often 🙂 I am also having pizza & ranch dressing almost once a week for dinner, so there are definitely more indulgent things too! That is practically my Friday night tradition at this point.
