For as long as I can remember, I have been a little obsessed with long hair. I had shorter hair as a kid and seriously, I wanted long hair so bad because the yellow Power Ranger had long hair. LOL. I don’t know why I even cared about the yellow one, because the pink Power Ranger was my favorite. Anyways, I digress. As I grew up through my teenage years and college I always had long hair…down to the middle of my back usually. I did once chop it all off for Locks of Love, but then began the process of growing it back. Once I hit 30, I felt like my hair just wasn’t growing as long or strong as it used to and the ends were always looking bad. So I decided to give it a good ole chop and see how it went. Spoiler alert: I love it, and today I’m going to share why short hair has become my favorite.
It is WAY EASIER.
This may be obvious, but longer hair is SO much more higher maintenance than short hair. It takes longer to wash, to condition, to blow dry, to style, it tangles easily, gets caught in your clothing, ponytails whip you in the face while working out, etc.
With short hair, I don’t worry about any of that. It takes a fraction of the time to wash, dry, & style and I am all about that low maintenance beauty kinda life, okay!
It actually looks *good* messy.
Maybe some people can pull off that long hair messy look, but I always just ended up looking like I’d been living in a cave. With short hair though, the messy look actually WORKS for me and it looks good! I usually just spray some of this texturizing spray on it and I’m good to go.
It doesn’t need to be washed as frequently.
This might just be my experience, but I’ve noticed that my shorter hair requires less washing than my longer hair did because it doesn’t get greasy as fast for some reason. Again that just plays into the whole lower maintenance thing that I’m a big fan of!
It’s just sassy and fun.
It is so liberating to chop off your hair. I legitimately felt FREE the first time I walked out of the salon with a new short ‘do. I didn’t even realize how much of a prisoner to my long hair I was until it was gone.
It’s more youthful.
I think a lot of women hold on to longer hair thinking it makes them look younger, when in actuality I think shorter hair looks more youthful! Shorter hair looks more healthy and lively. I think it probably varies person to person, but whenever I see someone I know (or know via Instagram) cut their hair, I’m just like YESSSS you look ALIVE! Haha 🙂 I don’t know, maybe the long hair just looks like it weighs some people down, I’m not sure.
Short Hair For Life
I do think long hair is gorgeous and I don’t mean to sound like I’m hating on it. I just think short hair doesn’t get the credit it deserves and now I feel personally experienced enough to weigh in on both!! Will I ever have long hair again? Probably not…but I’ll never say never. I just think, overall short hair has way more pros than cons, and is way more in line with my personal lifestyle. I have more important things to do than style my hair for an hour every day. Besides, I can always throw in hair extensions if I want to have long hair for a day, right? 😉
What do you think? Are you team short hair or long hair?

Bess
