There are so many exciting things about being pregnant. Imagining what your baby will look like, what she will be like, what you will name her (I use the feminine pronoun here because we are having a girl!) All of those things are so exciting, just to name a few! It was so incredible to see the baby on the ultrasound the first time (at 9 weeks for us) and then again when we went back at 13 weeks we got to hear the heartbeat. Those moments are so special but it definitely made me wish I could hear baby more frequently! So I looked into it and I got the Baby Doppler Sonoline B heartbeat monitor so we could listen to baby’s heartbeat at home! And today I’m going to share my Baby Doppler Heartbeat Monitor review to further share why I wanted one, how it works, and everything else you need to know!
Why I Wanted One
I pretty much touched on the main reason I wanted one already: to be able to listen to baby’s heartbeat from home or anywhere, anytime! We took a video of the first time we found the heartbeat and sent it to our families. It’s a sweet moment to share!! But another nice upside is just the peace of mind you can get with it. This really just depends on the person, but if you’re someone who tends to worry or gets anxiety, it is certainly nice to be able to just have the Sonoline B heartbeat monitor at home for some reassurance.
How It Works
The Sonoline B heartbeat monitor is intended for use after the 12th week of pregnancy. Baby is just so small before then that it would be hard to pick up the heartbeat. The device runs on AA batteries, and to use you simply turn on the power button, put some of the ultrasound transmission gel (that comes in the box) on the probe, and then place it between your belly button and pubic bone area to find the heartbeat. If you don’t find it right off the bat, don’t panic. I wasn’t able to my first try, but it was at night after I had just eaten a big dinner. I had also just used the restroom, and it’s recommended to have a full bladder when you use it because for whatever reason that can help!
I decided to try again first thing in the morning before I went to the bathroom or had anything to eat. Again I looked around for a while, but then finally moved the probe lower down than I originally had…and found it!! The speakers put out her heartbeat and it was the best sound ever. She was way lower than I would have thought but just keep that in mind they can be very low! Also remember, babies move around 🙂 This was also when I was 14 weeks pregnant, so I know it will become easier to locate the heartbeat as baby gets bigger.
Other Information to Know
The Sonoline B heartbeat monitor is hand held and a great size to be able to take with you anywhere, should you chose! The LCD-backlit screen displays the baby’s heartbeat and the speakers put out those wonderful little thumps. The first set of AA batteries is included, which can give you up to 10 hours of continuous run time, which is pretty good! Considering you may only listen for a couple of minutes at a time each time, that battery life has potential to last a while.
Here are some of the other features of the Sonoline B heartbeat monitor:
- Real-time FHR (heart rate) display mode
- Averaged FHR display mode and
- Manual mode
- Battery status indicator
- Built-in speaker
