Last weekend Craig & I hosted our gender reveal party at our house. We had our families over for a couple of hours and it was so much fun. I have to be honest, the week leading up to the party felt like the slowest week of all time!! The anticipation was definitely killing me, haha 🙂
Since I am only 13 weeks (tomorrow) we did not find out the gender via ultrasound, since you usually get that around week 18-20. We did a blood test for chromosomal abnormalities (typically an optional test) and it is able to give gender based on the chromosomes. We actually got the results on Christmas Eve and it was SO HARD not to look at it. I forwarded the email to my friend Cara, who was the only person that knew if it was a girl or a boy. She was in charge of getting the confetti poppers (we used these confetti poppers in the 12 inch) in the appropriate color: blue or pink! Her daughters came as well and they served as my photographers & videographers and nailed it <3
We had a little lunch spread for everyone, catered mostly by Chick-fil-a! Nuggets, grilled chicken wraps, fruit tray, lemonade, sweet tea…and then of course cookies and cake! We ordered the cake from Harris Teeter and I think they did such a great job of making a custom cake!
When everyone arrived, I had them make their guess about boy or girl by wearing either a pink or blue clothes pin (these are the ones I got) and by writing their name in either blue or pink ink in a notebook under the boy or girl column. I will say, more people guessed boy but there was a good amount of girl guesses! For a little background on that, Craig’s side of the family is heavily boys. He is one of 3 boys, and then he has something like 10 boy cousins. No girls! I come from a more balanced group, but we are probably slightly more girl-heavy.
Anyways, other decorations included these blue mason jars with these faux pink peonies, this balloon set, and this gender reveal party set of paper plates, cups, napkins, and a cute banner we put on the mantle.
The little sign of “Blue or Pink, what do you think?” is one I just made myself, if you’d like to use it you can click here to download it. It’s a 4″x6″ picture.
Everyone mingled and had lunch before we headed out to the porch to do the big reveal!! We were blessed with such a beautiful day. I mean, it was January 5th and it was 65 degrees & sunny outside. Amazing!
We had a little countdown going and then Craig & I popped the reveal!
GIRLLLL!!!!!!!!!
I have had such a strong feeling that it was a girl (also, side note, all the old wives tales and Chinese calendar were right about it being a girl) and I had two separate dreams it was a girl…once early on and then again in the week before the reveal. But I feel like whenever I guess gender for my friends I am always wrong, so for that reason alone I was preparing for blue confetti. I wore my pink guess though, since that’s what I thought it was going to be, but I just figured I’d be wrong. Also, of course I would have been just as happy for a boy!! I just had a strong feeling it was a girl.
As you can see in the video, I scream out in shock and I started crying. We are so happy and excited! Click here to watch!
Also, 100% recommend confetti poppers. They were SO fun to shoot off and these went about 15 feet at least into the air!
We finished the party with the delicious cake (chocolate with vanilla buttercream) and then once everyone said their good byes, this mama had to hit the couch. I was so exhausted but so, so happy. I can’t wait to share this journey with you all!
My dress is from Lulus here (FYI I ordered a medium because I wanted to have some room to grow in it in case I want to wear for maternity pics or something like that, and for size reference I’m usually a 6 in dresses. I’m 5’9″ and it was a little long on me too, which is why I just pinned up the front. I didn’t want to get it hemmed in case I ever want to wear with heels) but for the party I wore pink sneakers (similar to these). I wore blue tassel earrings (similar here), and also had pink nails. Tried to cover my bases!
We are so grateful to have our families close enough to drive for the day to share this moment with us. My brother was the only sibling not able to be there since he lives in D.C., but we shared the video with him moments after it happened! Such a great time. It was one of the best days EVER!
