I love to take a look at the year that has just passed and see what improvements or changes I want to make going into the New Year. I enjoy New Year’s resolutions just because it feels like such a clean slate and a great time to give yourself a fresh start. I’ve been evaluating my resolutions and today I want to share 3 home-centered resolutions for the New Year. Since we are expecting our first baby in July, this year is going to look a little different to us, so planning ahead on our goals will help us tremendously.
3 Home-Centered New Year’s Resolutions
Budget & Organization. In case you don’t already know, my husband is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and therefore, is really into budgeting and helping us stay on track to reach our financial goals. I am SO lucky to have him help our family in this way because a goal without a plan is just a wish, right? So this way we have a plan structured around our end goals and make sure we are saving enough to match them. That being said, our budget is definitely going to have to change in 2019 as we prepare for baby since new expenses will be involved! So that restructuring is definitely one big thing we are doing for our home & life.
I also plan to really dive deep into organizing…I suppose some people may call this desire pre-baby “nesting” but I really want to purge our house of anything that no longer serves us, any clutter we have, and donate things that we think could be useful to others. For me, a fresh 2019 planner is a MUST to keep my to-do’s and tasks on track! Buying a new planner every year really might be one of the things that brings me the most joy. It is hard to explain but it really does make me so excited for the year ahead! I also love fresh notebooks. I can never have enough. Writing things down rather than keeping them in my head is crucial to me staying organized and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
Pre-Natal Health & Fitness. If you’re a frequent reader around here, you already know how big of a role health & fitness play in my life. So, this isn’t one of those standard “get in shape for the New Year” resolutions. Rather, now more than ever, I am focused on my health and fitness for different reasons. I want to move, strengthen, and nourish my body to be the most prepared for labor & delivery I can be, and into motherhood for my babe! Luckily I’ve been able to maintain my 6-day a week workout schedule, however the workouts themselves are less intense than they typically were pre-pregnancy. I just want to continue to keep that up, be sure to give my body all the nutrients it needs and overall just continue exercising for a strong & healthy pregnancy!
How does this tie into the home you may ask? Well, again this is not news to you if you’ve been here before, but I workout exclusively at home! I share my Weekly Workout Schedules every Sunday on the blog for anyone looking to have some at-home workout ideas. I also have free workout videos on my YouTube Channel and then of course there’s my Fitter Program that has 8 downloadable workouts as well as a nutrition plan. I also put my Fitter 1 program on a big sale! As I modify my workouts for pregnancy, I plan to share all of those here on the blog for anyone that wants to check them out…they will all be workouts you can do from the comfort of your home!
A New Home for our Growing Family. We love our current house, but with me now working full-time from home and a baby on the way, we don’t quite have the space that we would like since the room we would plan to use for the nursery is currently my home office AND our guest room. Could we make it work in this house? Absolutely! And there are no guarantees we will move…we are simply keeping our eyes open and seeing that homes hit the market. If any feel right, then we might pursue it. Otherwise, we know we can happily stay in our little home for now and I will just work EXTRA hard on being really organized to use our space efficiently 😉
Something that really helps with this process is Opendoor. If you’ve never heard of Opendoor, it’s a revolutionary new way to both buy and sell your home. It takes the stress out of it all, because you can sell your home directly to Opendoor in as little as 10 days and eliminate listing your home, all of the showings, and months of stress. It is comforting to know if we found “the one” that we could sell our home quickly to Opendoor and move on to the next one and not get caught up being unable to sell our home in time to buy the new one. They let you close on your timeline and even take care of any repairs that would be needed so you don’t have to hassle with that, they simply deduct those repair costs at closing. I can also keep my eye on homes for sale on the Opendoor app, since they also sell homes as well! It’s really streamlined and easy to have it all in one place. They are currently in 18 cities throughout the country, including right here in Charlotte, and you can browse listings in those cities right on the Opendoor website and app. I’m excited to see what comes up!!
Again, you can learn more about Opendoor HERE! I will keep you all posted on progress into the New Year!!
What are some of your New Years resolutions?! I would love to hear them!

Bess
