Many thanks to Secret Deodorant for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.
Living an active lifestyle is something that has always been important to me. Growing up an athlete with practices and games almost every day, it was deeply embedded into my daily routine all the way through college. Then after college it was up to me to continue to prioritize exercise and being active. I had to take the ownership of it, and I wanted to because I love how working out makes me feel. Endorphin high, hello! 🙂 You have to first want it, and then decide to do whatever it takes to have it.
An active lifestyle doesn’t just mean your daily workout, either. It’s doing the little things throughout the day to move your body, get out of your chair, and keep that blood flowin’! Some Americans are sedentary for up to 21 hours a day…that is crazy. Our bodies were meant to move, bend, stretch, & sweat! But that last part–sweat–doesn’t have to hold us back. Some women may be worried about getting sweaty or starting to smell if they’re too active throughout the day. That’s where Secret Active comes in to support your active lifestyle! Secret Active was released in January of 2018 and is specifically formulated for high activity. What do I mean by that? Its sweat-activated technology actually works better the more you sweat and the harder you work, trapping odor and releasing fragrance to keep you fresh & dry for 48 hours. I’ve been using Active in Invisible Spray, and it also smells amazing.
So now that you’ve got that part covered, let’s chat about some tips to get motivated and stay active!
Getting Motivated
This can definitely be a challenge for everyone at times, and I always think that you have to just make the lifestyle a habit to be able to keep up with it long term. Just do it day after day even if you don’t feel like it at times. We are all human and will struggle on any given day. But when it’s a habit, you’ll be able to do it that much easier and won’t need to find motivation to get going. That being said, here are some tips to get motivated when you need it:
- Create an Inspiration Board on Pinterest: Pin things that inspire you, like quotes celebrating strength and movement!
- Find & follow inspirational people on Instagram. Instagram is flooded with “fitspiration”, and all you need to do is find the accounts that speak to you and promote a healthy lifestyle! I also recommend un-following anyone that makes you feel down about yourself when you get caught in the comparison game…even if it is not their intention! Those negative thoughts about yourself can make it extra difficult to get motivated.
- Buy some new activewear! This always motivates me to workout 😉 When you get some new workout clothes, you’ve gotta go show them off!!
- Have a journal, and write down your goals. Write down why those goals are important to you. Do you want to be a better role model for your kids? Do you want to get in shape for your wedding, and carry it into your new married life? Whatever your reasons are, write them down and come back to them in times when you may be lacking motivation.
- Listen to a new playlist! I personally love Spotify because there are so many pre-made playlists that you can follow and listen to get pumped up for your workout.
- Find a workout buddy! Getting someone else to workout with you will be helpful because you can keep each other accountable, and probably make your workouts more fun 🙂
- Work with a fitness coach! This person will be able to give you dedicated attention, personalized recommendations, and help you stay motivated when you don’t feel like doing anything.
Staying Active
Being active every day is so important to our bodies and our health & wellbeing. There are lots of ways to stay active each day, and here are some tips to do just that:
- Workout first thing in the morning. Lay out your clothes, have everything ready to go, set that alarm to wake up to workout before the rest of your day begins. This way, nothing gets in the way of your exercise!
- Get a pedometer of some kind, whether it be in a watch like an Apple Watch, FitBit, Garmin, Polar, anything! And then try to get at least 10k steps per day. This will help you get more light activity in throughout your day and help break up extended periods of sitting. If you’re in a corporate office, reach out to your higher ups to see if it would be possible to put a walking treadmill somewhere in the office space for everyone to use. My old work had this, and people would just schedule time to walk on the treadmill and they could take their laptops in there and work! If that’s not an option, try just taking a 10-15 minute break to walk around outside!
- You’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a thousand times, but park your car further away and always take the stairs over the elevator!! These things truly add up!
- Keep a workout journal. Write down what you’ve done each week…then at the end of the week you can look back on your achievements. It will motivate you to see the amazing work you’ve done and keep you going. You can also use this journal to track personal bests, such as your fastest 5k time! It can serve as the benchmark for you to keep working to better yourself.
- Get a dog! Besides the fact they are cute and amazing companions, they also need their own exercise!! You’ll have a built-in walking buddy every day, and you can aim to take them on a walk in the morning and evening, even if it’s short!
- Randomly do 10 squats every hour on the hour of your day. You can do this anywhere!! Those will really add up by the end of the day!
- Don’t let sweat & odor keep you from being active! Grab some Secret Active at Target and you can feel confident that you’ll be fresh & dry for 48 hours, no matter what you’re doing.
