Today I’m sharing something with you all today that I’m pretty excited about…my home office! I think it’s important to have a little space that is all your own and where you can feel creative and relaxed. Currently my office is actually a shared space with our guest room, but that is fine! Our guest room is only occupied every now and then so it does really feel like “my space”. Craig has his man-cave and this room is where I can go to sit, think, work, etc.! Maybe one day I will have a dedicated office, but for now this is does the trick.
I really enjoy a clean cut, sort of minimalist look for my desk space. My brain is cluttered enough sometimes…I need my desk to not be cluttered 🙂 That brings me to my first tip for being organized: write things down instead of keeping them in your brain. I know y’all have heard me say it before, but I swear by my Day Designer. It helps keep track of all my to-do’s, ideas, and lists so I can get them out of my head.
Another tip that helps me stay organized is to have a little filing system. I have one of these set of drawers under my desk that I can keep different papers and notebooks and refer back to them when I need, rather than having them all scattered about my desk. I like having a spacious desk with one drawer for the necessities.
One thing that helps me really center myself to create and work is to be reminded of God’s grace. I got this letter board sign and I can switch it in and out with whatever words may speak to me. It serves as inspiration and motivation, so I like to keep that right there on my desk as a reminder.
Other decorative pieces include a scented candle (a couple of them actually, including my favorite one), eucalyptus leaves, a wedding photo of my hubby & me, and this amazing limited edition fine art photograph of a leopard in the grass by my friend Erin Hines. She started Erin Hines Photography and I am absolutely blown away by all of her pieces. I love how classic and beautiful they are, and the current collection really emulates strength to me and I find inspiration not only from her as a boss babe following and unleashing one of her passions, but by the picture itself. Go check out her beautiful photos, she is extremely talented and these pictures are perfect for any home! I seriously want them all.
If you know me then you know I also love a cozy touch on pretty much everything…so this pillow was perfect to go with my chair. It has a fun texture & design but it’s really soft and a perfect support on my back when I need it! I think it also makes the space welcoming.
Another organization tip that really helps me stay sane and clutter free is to clean up regularly. There are times I have outfits to shoot all over the floor, contracts & papers all over my desk, and that stresses me OUT! I have to take the time to clean up regularly or I will be too stressed to actually get any work done. So for me it helps to just clean up as I go along and never let it get to the point where it’s an all out mess. It happens sometimes, don’t get me wrong. Life happens and sometimes I just have to deal with it later. But that is what I try to do more often than not.
To that end, another tip is to throw things away or donate them! Purge your space and your life of things that do not serve you. Also, I can guarantee if you have some gently used clothes, especially jackets, coats, scarves, gloves, etc. that you don’t need, especially this time of year with the cold temps, there is someone out there that could use it. Find a local homeless shelter or Salvation Army and share the warmth.
